Although you may hear me whining a little bit about the days getting colder and shorter (especially when I'm waking up at 4 a.m. to a dark and chilly house) the change in seasons has a few advantages.  One of these is that it's finally getting cold enough to wear suits!

1950s suit and ostrich feather hat

This, my very first vintage suit, is still one of my favorite suits for fall.  It comes dangerously close to being brown, but because the fabric is black, grey, and red I feel like teaming it with at least one of those colors is a natural and acceptable choice.  This time I decided to pair it with black, mostly so I could wear my comically feathered black hat to church on Sunday, which is clearly where a hat like this is meant to go.

It's worth noting here that I desperately need a new pair of black pumps... I was pulling a bit of a Marilyn Monroe all day, as the heel cap fell off of one a few winters ago and in the intervening time I've worn down the plastic of that heel even further, so all day I was walking with one heel about half an inch shorter than the other, wobble wobble!  But these were so cheap and are so comfy. even with the wobble, that I'm having a bit of a struggle trying to replace them.
