Apparently, when other people are around, I lose all ability to pose for photographs like a normal person.... so all of today's photos feature me, inspecting a particularly interesting spot on the sidewalk.  Sorry.

Doug had some family visiting over the last week, so after church on Sunday we trundled off to brunch at the Grafton Street Pub & Grill in Cambridge before heading off to an assortment of Christmas concerts for the remainder of the afternoon.  Since the third Sunday of Advent is Gaudete Sunday, when the pink candle in the Advent wreath is lit and traditionally the clergy wear pink (erm, no, sorry... rose) vestments I decided that a pink outfit was absolutely necessary.

I picked up this raspberry pink rayon crepe dress for a steal at a consignment shop in Cambridge, although it was rather short, tight fitting, and oddly stretchy when I first tried it on.  I consulted Hannah about it (one always needs a vintage fitting room picture-approver) and she thought it was worth taking a chance on even though the fit was weirdly snug.  Anyway, I took it home and read up on washing rayon crepe (verdict: don't! or be prepared to do a lot of ironing) and promptly plunked it into a sink of cold water where it did not shrink up one tiny bit... confirming my suspicions that the reason for the odd and stretchy texture of the fabric was that it had already been accidentally washed!  Anyway, much stretching and ironing later I had a dress with something a lot closer to proper fit and drape.  I see now that I've pressed a few accidental creases in and will need to go back to repair those, plus I need to spend some time with the sewing machine to mend a few popped seams that I missed the first time around.  But I'm wildly pleased to have another '40s dress and I promise it fits even nicer when I haven't just downed a plate of eggs benedict and home fries.
